Had enough of the rain and chill wind?  Here are a few exciting new things to go with our first sunny day in what seems like years…

Julia Holter – Ekstasis  CD/LP

Intensely beautiful songs, some superficial comparisons to Laurie Anderson or even Enya, but much more complex, interesting and beautiful.  Unanimous support from all of us at Red Cat.

Biosphere – N Plants

Mountain climber and ambient master musician Geir Jennsen saw some pictures of nuclear power plants nestled in beautiful coastal settings in Japan.  He set out to write an ambient album based on his feelings on the matter.  It was released in March 2011.  The Tsunami hit one month later.  LP just released.  Tense, beautiful, and ominous.  Be sure to check out his re-released ambient classic “Substrata” on CD or LP as well, it’s amazing.

Disappears – Pre Language  CD/LP

Driving Kraut-rock energy, punk edges, psych-inspired washes. Sonic Youths’ Steve Shelley on drums.

Drowned in sound Review

Loops of your heart – And Never Ending Lights  CD/LP

The Field side project.  More real instruments, same trance-inducing music.

Tanlines – Mixed Emotions  CD/LP

Dave and Ford mention ABC’s “Lexicon of Love” and Roxy Music “Avalon”.  I think of Hall and Oates, but what do I know?  Maybe it’s just the cover art…

The Men – Open Your Heart  CD/LP

Hard hitting & sonic, one of the better aggressive records of the year!

Mac Demarco – Rock and Roll Night Club  CD/LP
