More news about opening day to come! We are still of course open at our current location!
Red Cat Records moves to larger home
By Adrian Mack - Georgia Straight
Apparently, more and more people are listening to those round black slabs called “records”. Red Cat Records is moving to new premises later in January to accommodate the growth in business, and to focus on more in-store events.
“In the last few years we’ve seen a dramatic increase in vinyl sales,” co-owner Dave Gowans told the Straight. “We need to make more space, plus lots of local bands are releasing stuff on vinyl, and everyone is reissuing classic titles. It’s almost overwhelming.”
Gowans noted that the music-industry sales-monitoring service Nielsen SoundScan reported that in 2009, vinyl sales were the highest they’ve been since tracking began in 1991.
Red Cat moves to its new location at 4332 Main Street on January 30.

Reading the phrase ‘heart sweats’ and ‘young hearts spark fire’ over and over will eventually bring on a physiological reaction… luckily most of the MANY contest entries were brilliant and it was tough to pick the winners. Truly creative, subject matter ran from seasonal changes to post-coital ruminations. Without further ado- here they are!
Japandroids Ticket Winner
D. Goudie
Jumping the puddle
Wet leaves wet hair, my heart sweats
I stop when snow falls
Post-Nothing Vinyl Winners
P. Jackson
Our young hearts spark fire;
Her wet hair cools the flames down
Still now, my heart sweats…
J. Silva
-why I need new roomates-
Forever crazy
The girls are leaving wet hair
I quit…
Thanks to everyone that submitted (and there were many!)- we have posters or buttons for all the contestants at the store. Just let us know you were a haikuist!
